What do i do if a 3 year old cat ,that`s been using his litter box, starts to poop in the bath tub?

Wear a pair of flip flops when you take a shower.

Hope this helps! What do i do if a 3 year old cat ,that`s been using his litter box, starts to poop in the bath tub?
My kitten only did that if her poopy tray was in need of a clean. Its better than finding a poo behind the couch!!What do i do if a 3 year old cat ,that`s been using his litter box, starts to poop in the bath tub?
My first question would be: is its litter box clean? Many cats are finicky and hate dirty litter boxes, even if before they would go in a slightly dirty one. Make sure you scoop every day. Also, make sure you clean the tub with a solution that masks or removes the smell of the cats stool. A cat will go there again if it smells that it has gone their before. If it persists maybe you cat has a medical issue where it can't ';hold it.';
start showering in the litterpan.

you can try keeping a half inch of water in there at all times
I've got a cat that likes to pee in laundry baskets; we've learned not to leave them out anymore. He could just have needed to poop and went in something that reminded him of his own litter box. Clean the tub with strong cleaning liquids to eliminate the smell, and try to limit his access to the bathtub. Maybe start asking people to keep the bathroom door shut?
Change cat litters. My cat did this too! He just WOULD NOT poop in the litter box, he would pee but refused to poop in it. He'd go in the bathtub or on the bathrub rug. We changed to fresh step and haven't had any problems since. If changing litters and keeping it cleaned out daily doesn't help, I would take him to the vet. He could be having bowel problems. Hope this helps!
He might be trying to tell you his litter box needs cleaning. They won't use it if its too dirty for their tastes.
You need to take him to the vet.

When something is wrong with the cat, that causes pain when pooping, the cat learns to associate being in the litterbox with pain. So the cat seeks out other places to poop.

They often pick smooth, cold surfaces (such as tiled floors, or bathtub) when in pain.

Definitely get him to the vet, the longer you let this problem persist, the harder it may be to retrain him to the box when he is well again.

Once he has been treated by the vet, if he is still pooping in the bath, he should be confined to a small room, with just litterbox, bedding, food, water - then when he is consistently using the litterbox, you can let him out again.

Hope that helps.

edit : somebody mentioned above leaving an inch or so of water in the bathtub at all times - this is usually very effective, however the cat may well find another smooth, cool surface to poop on.
Try Cat Attract cat litter or put litter box in tub.
Get rid of it.
If the litter box is clean, and you haven't changed his litter, he could be trying to tell you something is wrong.

Check the box, check the litter. Keep an eye on him. If you are still not sure, take him to the vet.
