My friend told me when he cleans out his tank he puts the old tank water and fish into his bath tub is this ok

its best not to put fish into anything that has had chemicals in it that can be dangerous to them, such as soap, which would likely be in a bathtubMy friend told me when he cleans out his tank he puts the old tank water and fish into his bath tub is this ok
no as the bath has had deturgents in there which can be fatal to fish and he should not be doing that much of a water change any way the most should be 50% . he is stessing the fish out every time he does this and shotening their life spanMy friend told me when he cleans out his tank he puts the old tank water and fish into his bath tub is this ok
hm, if its only temporary i dont see why not

but he shouldnt be cleaning out his tank completely, he should still have some of the old water in it

he should use a gravel cleaner
Well as long as the fish dont go down the drain and there is enough water i'm pretty sure it would be okay =]

But make sure that there isnt any leftover shampoo or soap that could get stirred up..
Why doesn't he use a 5 gallon bucket and one of those syphon hose vacuums to clean around the rocks, he really shouldn't handle the fish.
That wouldn't hurt the fish as long as there is no chemical cleaner left in the bath. also, aren't you supposed to leave an amount of the dirty water in the tank before you fill it back up? The other thing is, when the tank is full it should be left to stand for several hours, fresh tap water has chlorine and fluoride in it and he needs to give it chance to 'breath' before putting the fish back in.
No. He shouldn't be doing a full 100% water change in the first place. Moving the fish stresses them out and that opens the door for other health problems. If the tank is cycled, he should only change NO MORE THAN 30% per week.
On a normal clean the fish shouldn't leave the tank, only like a 10-20% water change is required, best done with a gravel cleaner, and then clean the glass or do any gardening while the waters low. Then refill it and add stress zime (or watever dechlorinator you use). During this clean the filter too.

Any soap residue could kill the fish, also the stress and shock of being caught does them no favours at all.
