will this effect him?Should I bath my newborn in a tub even with the umbilical cord?
Sponge baths only until the umbilical stump falls off (typically by 3 weeks)Should I bath my newborn in a tub even with the umbilical cord?
The ONLY kind of bath you should be giving your baby is a sponge bath. You can purchase a baby tub or lay them on the floor while you wash them with the sponges. If you give your baby a bath with the umbilical cord stump still on, then its common for the water to travel (which would be dirty and infected) into the cord and through the system. It can cause an illness that would sicken, if not kill your baby. So I would HIGHLY not reccomend it.
Didn't the doctors tell you this? AND you should only sponge bathe your baby 2-3 times a week.
My sons first bath in the hospital by a nurse was in an actual baby bath(hospital policy to show how to bathe the baby that way), he was submerged partly but his umbilical cord stayed dry the whole time. The nurse explained that you can give them a bath like that but you must keep your baby's cord dry until it falls off. So i think as long as you keep the belly button clear and dry you should be fine....if a nurse does it, then you should be safe to as well.
No - a newborn does not a bath at this stage. Use a wipe to clean him off, but do NOT put him in the bathtub until the cord has fallen off and is 100% healed. Call your pediatrician for more information, but at this stage a newborn cannot regulate his own temperature. Giving him a bath will draw out that precious heat from his body, even if you give him a warm bath.
It's not a good idea, but if for some reason you really think you need to, just make sure when you're done you dry off the umbilical cord part REALLY well, maybe even swab it with some rubbing alcohol as that will dry it out quicker. As sponge bath is safer though. Can you imagine how much a belly button infection would suck?
No the umbilical cord has to stay dry so it can fall off and not get infected. Be sure to give good sponge baths getting in all the folds or yeast will build up there. It will look like thick white lotion. This is under the armpits or any other folds. Dont forget the hair to avoid cradle cap.
I have always heard and been told not to get the cord wet, so we just sponge bathed my girl until it fell off. I assume it has something to do with keeping in all clean and dry as infection causing bacteria can grow more rapidly in dampness.
You just use a tiny bit of water in the tub and wet a rag and squeeze it out over the kiddo to bathe him. If you are bathing him right, the umbilical cord should never be submerged.
No. The little guy does not need a bath until after the cord falls off. And then, he really does not need a bath. Cripes! The little guy does not get dirty -- except for the 'private parts.' Don't rush him into the bath!
My doctor told me not to use a tub to bathe my son untilt he umbilical cord and all the gunk that goes with it was gone because it could get infected. I did sponge baths until then.
no you want the umbilical cord to dry out, bathing the baby in the tub will probably get it wet, even newborns will squirm and splash
sponge bathe for now
yeah your not supposed to bathe babies with soap or anything until the cord falls off.
sponge baths is all they recommend. And try not to get that area wet..it can get infected very easily this way.
it should only take about a week for the umbilical cord to fall off... sponge bath till then i was always told by doctors and nurses that they are not ready for tub baths until it falls off.
you can put him in the bath, but dont let the water go over the belly button, and just wash around it as to not get it wet
I always sponge bathed mine until the umbilical cord fell off. Bacteria can start to grow if its is damp or wet.
Warm water and a washcloth. You have to wait for it to fall off and heal.
You give a baby sponge baths as long as he has the cord. Do not submerge him.
I was always told you have to wait until it falls off, until then just sponge bath.
Nooo.
You should sponge bath him with washcloth until it falls off.
NOOOO!!!!!
scrub your baby but leave a 5cm margin from his cord
An electrical cord maybe, umbilical - naw.
