Do you have any tricks with unclogging a bath tub drain using a snake (drain pipe auger)?

i can get the snake about 5 or 6 feet down the drain, but it won't go any further... i keep twisting and twisting, but it won't go any deeper... the drain is still draining very slowly...Do you have any tricks with unclogging a bath tub drain using a snake (drain pipe auger)?
go outside and find the drain clean out access and snake from thereDo you have any tricks with unclogging a bath tub drain using a snake (drain pipe auger)?
Do you realize you go through the thingie that pulls the drain stopper up and down. That often gets a lot of hair attached to it. Just undo the screws and pull out the whole contraption. If that isn't the problem, then you snake from there. It's so much easier. If I can't get it from there I call the plumber and they run stuff through from the roof vents.
Yes, You can use a 5 gallon vacuum. My plumber does it all the time. He takes off the cover of the drain and the drain stop, then sucks out the clog with the vacuum. Sometimes he pushes it with positive pressure as well. Just put the hose on the other side of the vacuum so it blows instead of sucks. Hope it works for you!
I would forget the snake and try the good old fashioned rubber plunger .But give it a few goes dont just expect it to work the first time you press on it and as its the bath you will be better off blocking the overflow outlet so that you can build up more pressure.
Besides some hair I can't figure out what else could be stopping your tub from draining. Use the baking soda and vinegar and go on your roof. There is a vent from the bathroom for the sewer gases. Run a water hose down it and turn the water on full blast for 5 minutes.
I have used baking soda and white vinegar on slow drains before with success on slow drains. However it sounds like yours might take more drastic measures. Try a build up remover those works well too. If your are trying to avoid calling a plumber.

The baking soda and vinegar thing really only works on the trap part though.
pour a cup of baking soda in there, followed by a cup of white vinegar. Plug the drain with the stopper and wait about 10 minutes. rinse with hot water, plunge if necessary.

This is a very effective, and minimally offensive way to unclog the most stubborn drain.
Sorry I can't help....I would just call the landlord. :)
